English vocabulary 1
Theory:
We continue with the issue 1 - Basics of electricity. We treat P-1.2 - The electrical circuit and comment the most common electrical symbols.
Workshop:
We finish the extensions cords, try them out and measure tension and intensity of a fan. Note that to measure voltage it is not necessary having the fan connected, while measuring intensity it is and the intensity increases at higher fan speeds.
AC/DC -> Highway to Hell
Vocabulary:
electricity
electric circuit
electric tension
voltage
electric current
power
alternate current
direct current
lamp
battery
electrical conductor
measure
Pronunciation
Phrases:
Electrical tension is measured in volts (V).
Electrical current is measured in ampere (A).
Electrical power is measured in watt (W).
Alternate current (AC) - Direct current (DC)
A lamp connected with conductors to a battery is a closed electric circuit, where the electric current can flow.

Integrated Language Treatment
According to the “Decret 15/2013, de 19 d’abril, pel qual es regula
el tractament integrat de les llengües als centres docents no
universitaris de les Illes Balears ”, the class will be held in english.
Other languages than english will only be used in case that communication in english should become impossible.
Since the english level of the students will most probably be quite low, the main aim will be to increase their technical vocabulary to a level that permits them understand simple instructions in spoken and written english.
The blog PQPI Electricity (pqpisonpacselectricity.blogspot.com), containing information, technical documentation and language exercises for the students, will be conducted in english.
A written abstract in english of each treated issue will help to consolidate the vocabulary.
